Annex 89: Ways to Implement Net-zero Whole Life Carbon Buildings (2023-2027)

  • The project focuses on the actions needed to implement, both in public policies and in practice, buildings with zero greenhouse gas emissions throughout their entire life cycle. This means explicitly considering both embodied and operational emissions in all phases of the life cycle, aiming to achieve the overarching goal of the Paris Agreement, which is to limit global warming to well below 2°C, preferably to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels, in order to reach climate neutrality by 2050. In this context, policies, initiatives, and actions that share, support, and contribute to this goal are referred to as “Paris Agreement compatible.” More information about Annex 89 can be found by clicking here.
  • Lab members participating in the Annex:
    • Dr. Maria Andrea Triana
    • Dr. Ana Paula Melo
  • Researchers' involvement in the activities:
    • Postdoctoral researcher Maria Andrea Triana is involved in activities under Subtask 2. In Subtask 2, the main activities are related to investigating the assessment methods proposed or required by current climate policies, aiming to verify their compatibility with achieving science-based targets and carbon budgets. The focus of her participation is on implementing the operational stage of the life cycle with a view toward net zero.
